Introduction
Peptic ulcer is an excruciating sore in the lining of the stomach or duodenum (upper part of the small intestine). The stomach and duodenum is where the hydrochloric acid and pepsin are present. When the protective mucus that covers the lining has weakened, it causes the tissue to become enraged and form ulcers. Peptic ulcer can be very painful because the unprotected tissue is exposed to the acidic gastric juice. This digestive disorder can happen to people of all ages but it is rare in little children. Peptic ulcer is a very commonly known digestive disorder.
There are three types of peptic ulcers. These include:
Gastric ulcer which is an ulcer that expands in the stomach.
Esophageal ulcer is an ulcer that develops in the esophagus.
Duodenal ulcer is an ulcer that grows in the duodenum which is the upper part of the small intestine.
